Do makeup products expire?
Yes, makeup DOES expire!
When makeup is opened it gets exposed to air, therefore allowing bacteria to enter the container.
Expired makeup can cause breakouts and infections, which can lead to skin and health problems if not disposed of at the proper time.
You should discard all makeup after a year, especially mascara and liquid eyeliner as these can harbor harmful bacteria.
All products should be stored in a cool, dry place to help them last.
Expiration dates depend on the product.
Look for the time limit indicated on the package. It will either say 3M, 6M or 12M.
Foundation will last from 6 to 12 months.
Pay attention to the texture of your foundation before applying it to your skin.
Foundations contain ingredients that can start to separate when they’ve expired.
Follow this handy guide to help you determine your beauty product shelf life:
-Mascara is best to replace every three months.
You can really tell when it's gone bad because you'll notice a funky scent on your mascara.
-Concealers should be tossed after one year. Powder concealer is good for up to two years.
-Eyeliner pencils can last from 6 to 12 months, while liquid eyeliner can last three to six months.
-Gel eyeliner it's good for two months.
-Eyeshadow, Dry powders, blush and bronzers in compact containers can last several years with proper care. Due to their dry nature, these products can last 3 to 4 years.
-Lipstick and Gloss life span is one year
So when do you know when your makeup products are gone bad?
If you notice separation, changes in texture or color or any smell then it’s definitely time to toss it.
