Javicia Leslie is making history as CW television series revealed on July 8th, that the actress will transform into Batwoman's character. Javicia Leslie, who previously starred in "God Friended Me" on CBS, is set to debut in the iconic role in January 2021. She will be the first Black woman to play the superhero.
On July 8th, Leslie said in a statement "I am extremely proud to be the first Black actress to play the iconic role of Batwoman on television, and as a bisexual woman, I am honored to join this groundbreaking show, which has been such a trailblazer for the LGBTQ+ community."
Leslie also wrote a message on Instagram saying "For all of the little black girls dreaming to be a superhero one day... it’s possible!"
Leslie replaces Ruby Rose, who left the show in May after one season (2019-20).
Ruby Rose did react to Javicia Leslie’s casting as the new Batwoman in the CW superhero series and wrote on her Instagram account: “OMG!! This is amazing!!
