Meet First Transgender Woman and First Filipina To Represent New Zealand in The Beauty Pageant.
Updated: Jan 7, 2021
Keil is delighted to be a pioneer in New Zealand’s LGBTQIA+ community, but her journey has not always been easy as she was disowned and kicked out by her family when she first began transitioning in 2017.
Meet Arielle Keil a 26-year-old who was crowned Miss Intercontinental New Zealand 2020 in early November.

Arielle Keil is of Filipina-German heritage, the first transgender, Filipina woman to compete and be crowned in New Zealand's beauty pageant.
After the difficult rough patch since transitioning, her relationship with her father has improved.
Arielle Keil told The Guadian that she had already spent the formative years of her life as the wrong gender and didn’t want to waste her twenties in the wrong body either.
Arielle knew that whatever her parent's reaction was going to be, this was something she needed to do for herself.
Arielle tells Bored Panda that after getting kicked out of home and becoming fully independent has earned the respect of her father. Arielle is now herself, and with her dad seeing and treating her as his daughter now, their parent/child relationship has become much healthier.
